Who has been worse than Maranta?

How can you guys say Maranta is bad, what with the 'blistering pace' that he says he has?

All he needs is to get into some space. Just you watch...

PS: of that earlier list, are people seriously considering Daniel Tupou as worse than Maranta?

Agree, I'd take Tupou over him for sure.

I've always had a soft spot for the guy because he always tried so hard, but lately he seems like he doesn't give a ****. So I'm off him completely now. Im hoping he can redeem himself but not holding my breath... We need 1 more decent winger who can catch a ball and run like **** and we'll be good

Tupou has had some REAL average games this season.

Has Maranta had anything but this season?

Tupou at least has some attacking ability. Excellent finisher in both working the sideline and particularly in the air.

Tupou is fucking shit. If he was on the same cash as Maranta, then sure, I'd take him over Maranta. But at the price he'd be wanting, it's like choosing between two different turds.

Do I seriously consider Tupou circa 2016 a worse player than Maranta circa 2016? Maybe not...but he's been so bad this year he deserves some acknowledgement.

His best game of the season was against the Bulldogs, a game where he was too lazy to take a hit-up so he passed the ball to Latrell Mitchell who was struggling with an injury and could barely run.

The grass maybe slightly greener, but boy did the Roosters pay more for it.

Here's Maranta's competition...

Matthew Allwood
Joe Burgess
Greg Eden
Brendan Elliott
Kalifa Faifai Loa
Bryson Goodwin
Brenko Lee
Edrick Lee
Kurt Mann
Chanel Mata'utia
Peter Mata'utia
Ken Maumalo
Dane Nielsen
Michael Oldfield
John Olive
Jordan Rankin
Nathan Ross
Daniel Tupou
Akuila Uate
Brayden Williame
Johnathan Wright
Matthew Wright

Surely Maranta has to be better than these options right?
Looking at that list, but over their career as opposed to just this year, I'd have Joe Burgess, Bryson Goodwin, Edrick Lee, Kurt Mann, Ken Maumalo, Nathan Ross, Daniel Tupou and Akuila Uate over Lachlan.

That's only because I consider him relatively safe at the back, especially in regards to high balls, but if I was to look at attacking prowess only, I'm not sure I would have him over anyone in that list...

Joe Burgess? Joe? The winger for Souths that was so terrible the roosters released him half way through his first year (the 2016 roosters)? That Joe Burgess. Just to be clear Joe isn't George Burgess' nickname or anything like that.

Why is it that backs from England are (almost?) always absolute duds, while the forwards are usually pretty fucking good? Maybe we should look at some of their forwards ourselves?

He did say over their career not just this year.

I don't know about Goodwin or Mamulo though.

Yes, over his career, he has certainly been quite good, albeit most of it was in the ESL.

Maranta would have killed it in the Super League. Probably would have try scoring records that would never, ever be broken. 8 tries in one game, 207 tries in a season. Could probably kick goals and play second row over there too. A players past in the Super League has proven to be irrelevant when it comes to NRL player discussions. You have to base it on his NRL games or nothing at all.

Maranta is going to school Burgess tonight.

Bahahaha... that bold part is hilarious. Maranta and try scoring records is an oxymoron!

I can only compare what is available for comparison. Joe Burgess' sample in the NRL is too small to compare to anything, and regardless of the NRL being a step up from the ESL, Joe is faster and a better finisher than Maranta by a daylight margin, while Maranta may be more solid defensively. That's what I base my opinion on.

I don't understand why you think people cannot have opinions which are not based on fact, but merely expectation or even speculation...?

Eden was supposed to be ESL's Billy Slater. Their backs just suck.
