Hunt's a great player when he has zero expectation to play the role as the go to senior player in a squad or captain and can just focus on his game on the field. The would be buying him on big money to play that role so it will end up disastrously for them and probably hurt Ikat's development...
Hunt would’ve made enough after being on his insane dragons contract for years, surely he wants to actually achieve something at club level in his final couple of years
Edit: if I was him I’d want to come to the broncos. Gives him the best chance to win a comp and complete a redemption arc at...
There’s the lure of an increased chance of playing origin which is +90k + whatever the bump to your tpas is as an origin player. I imagine appearing in gfs/ finals probably has a financial benefit as well.
Without the salary cap the Broncos, eels, dogs, wahs, rorters, souths, and possibly the storm (all popular sides outside of the rorters and storm who are propped up by wealthy super fans) would all be vying for the comp. You could maybe chuck riff in as well because of their jr nursery, but...
Every other squad outside of riff and the storm have zero chance on paper. We at least have the ingredients to be contenders and a coach to hopefully put it together.
Zero rorters, storm, or riff players mentioned in that article btw. Are we just meant to supply the NRL with stars and get nothing out of it? At least clubs like Ajax in Europe get paid big dollars to develop players for other sides - we get nothing.
Assuming Hunt isn't an option (he should be - the dragons don't want him and are trying to free up cash to revamp their roster), who do we replace him with if we do sack him? I know it wasn't this simple at the time, but we virtually backed him over Dearden to partner Walsh in the spine for the...
I'm leaning no, but we need to get Hunt in for next year because the NRL are going to hit him with a massive suspension regardless.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we get some sort of cap relief if he's subject to a mandatory stand down period?
Trindall wasn’t involved in what looks like a bad wreck and was allowed to continue playing by the nrl. If this Mam incident is as bad as it appears then we won’t have a choice on whether we keep him on or not.
the silver lining in this terrible situation is that we could now have more...
Give his money to Trindall. No idea what we’re going to do next year if the sharks don’t release him early, maybe try and trade someone for Hunt for a season? Would the dragons want paix and hetho for hunt?
I think they might have convinced themselves that Dearden can be a game managing 7 (won't happen). They've gone all in on him and don't really have a locked in halfback for next season.
