He was probably on his way out anyway, with him being the worst of the "big 4", but they were probably hoping to flip him for decent assets. Cason Wallace looks like a better future fit too.
The way I understand it, all the guys who came through together around that age are super tight and probably wanted to stay together but money is always difficult to pass up, especially in a short sports career.
There's a chance Paix somehow turns it around and kicks on. He's shown flashes of being a dangerous dummy half in the past, he's still pretty young. I don't think it would take much to replace Smoothy. Mozer is a rookie and a mystery for now, doesn't sound like he ended this year particularly well?
It wasnt just injuries or off field issues IMO. The way I remember him was in the same as many other young halves that came through the system here: promising as a rookie but just wasn't actually that good as an NRL standard player.
My honest answer is because it was always on TV, more than any other sport, and the local team has generally been very good. If I grew up somewhere else watching something else, Rugby League would probably not be my favourite sport. I've been invested for too long to stop now though.
Love to see it, really. It's hard to support a team that no one can really challenge at all, it's just not fun. Australia needs genuine competition to make International footy even come close to Origin. Maybe a few losses in a row could make the next win feel sweet.
Penrith aren't the Roosters, they have lost a heap of genuine talent, they've just done an amazing job replacing them. Having Cleary certainly helps too, he has a Cam Smith like influence.
700-800K, sure. I'm OK sacrificing one of Cobbo or Staggs if it means having a gun 5/8th when next contract negotiations arrive. You need an overall great spine to win premierships.
These positions are all so interchangeable, I don't really think it would change the way Carrigan plays. Just slot whoever is the best starting option wherever.
He'll be 27-28 when Reynolds retires (depending on if its in 1 or 2 years), I'm really on the signing older halfbacks wagon after suffering through so many rookies. He's probably gotten better. Not sure if he's up to NRL level, but I'd definitely look at him and some others before bringing in...
