1. Josh Hoffman - 7/10 – This kid dad plenty of wraps on him before the season started and seemed to get better as the season went on, more workman like than flashy, but I liked that, didn’t try to over play his hand. The additional skills will come in time. Boyd is only now getting a passing game, certainly one to watch in the future. 2. Antonio Winterstein - 4/10 – Never seemed to get out of second gear, and the more the season went on the worse he got at the high balls. I would have liked him to stick around for next year but in saying that I’d rather Kemp if I had the choice. Only gave him such a low score because of how he played this year in comparison to last year, he can play better than that, just didn’t show it. 3. Alex Glenn - 5/10 – Got stuck out in the centres, which no doubt is not his favoured position and that IMO counted against him. A quality reserve and needs to be in the team next year. 4. Israel Folau - 8/10 – I still say he’s a better winger than centre, however not much more could have been asked from him, he was the difference in a number of games, but without Hodges and the wingers failing to provide adequate support, he was left to do it all himself and it showed. Will be missed. 5. Jharal Yow Yeh - 6/10 – I’m giving him a pass mark and that is because he was injured early in the season and never really got his confidence back and it showed. Dropped a lot of the same balls he caught last year, I’m putting it down to “second year syndrome” so much more is expected next year. He showed glimpses of what he is capable of and the very next play shows his deficiencies. 6. Darren Lockyer - 9/10 – It’s not just what he did with the ball (that pass in SoO 3 was possibly the greatest pass I’ve ever seen) but his leadership of such a young team. Defensively he was better than I’ve seen him in years. Age will not weary them comes to mind. 7. Peter Wallace - 3/10 – This is not because Wallace is a bad player, more to the fact that I’m not seeing any improvement from the player that came here a few seasons ago. I want a halfback that takes control, someone who challenges the opposition and puts them in two minds in defence, Wallace hasn’t done that for a couple of season now. Lacks the leadership and creativity around the rucks required for a first grade halfback. The lack of pressure from a younger half is adding to his complacency. 8. Shane Tronc - 6/10 – I’ve been happy with Tronc, he has given us size up front and has an offload in his game and makes few errors. Hasn’t had the impact he did at the Cowboys, but would still be my starting prop next season. 9. Andrew McCullough - 4/10 I would have rated him lower expect for a few games this year and add to that a little bit of benefit of the doubt considering hooker is one of the toughest gigs in the game. Showed what he is capable of against New Castle in the first 15 mins and then wasn’t seen for the rest of the game, better for long is what I’m longing for. I’d like to see him quicker around the rucks and still think his passing game is too slow from dummy half, but also think his defensive game is quite good. I expect continued growth as a footballer next year. 10. Nick Kenny - 4/10 – The only reason I rated him this low is because he has waited a long time to make the grade as a starting prop and IMO hasn’t kicked on. Not hitting in defence as his nick name of the “Wasp” would imply. Always seems to get dominated in attack. I’d like to see more “sting” in defence and work on his bulk for next season if he wants to continue in the first grade squad. 11. Ben Te'o - 7/10 – Liked his all-round game, pulled off some clangers in defence and scored a few excellent back rower tries. A little more consistency should see him develop into a Tony Carroll type role. 12. Sam Thaiday - 8/10 – The best second rower in the game for most of the season although over played his hand a little too much in some games. Still his efforts were instrumental in getting us as far as we did this season. 13. Corey Parker - 8/10 – Almost an unsung hero of our front pack. Held the team together (although not from his captaincy) and his cover defence were notably missing when he was out injured. The Broncos are a weaker side without him and it showed. 14. Ben Hunt - 3/10 – I have only rated him this low because of expectation. Is he a halfback? IMO no, I’m sure he has the skills he just doesn’t seem to use them. Is he a Hooker? No, doesn’t have the defensive skills and his kicking game is not NRL standard at this stage. I’d like him to spend a year or so honing his skills in the QLD Cup. That doesn’t mean to say that he hasn’t had an impact but he wouldn’t replace any other first grade halfback or hooker in the game at the moment. 15. Matt Gillett - 9/10 – He has had a stellar season and had me saying “Taylor who”. I don’t expect the same next season but, wow, what a great first year. 16. Mitchell Dodds - 5/10 – Was used mostly as a replacement and basically did his job, he will be better for the experience next year. 17. Scott Anderson - 5/10 – Would have liked to seen more from him this year, especially when we were down on troops. I think he needs to bulk up a bit for next season. Josh McGuire - 2/10 – Gave away more penalties than any other player for minutes played I’m sure. The “Big Show” is just that at the moment, all show not substance. One of this seasons biggest disappointments as far as I’, concerned. Needs a big year to regain some credibility. Ashton Sims - 2/10 – Only played a couple of good games since he became a Bronco, pity because he has the skills and the aggression. Maybe he was too busy sulking to get any real work done. The game against Saints last year is what he is capable of, unfortunately for all of us, that was the last time he played like that. Lagi Setu - 4/10 – I thought he started the season off well, but injuries, poor form and the fact that he was leaving at the end of the year meant that he never really reached his full potential. Denan Kemp - 4/10 – Injuries destroyed any chance of a successful return, however I believe with a full season in 2011 and outside Inglis, he will be one of the leagues top try scorers.. Corey Norman - 4/10 – Reminds me of a young Darren Lockyer. I have no doubt we are seeing the future of the Broncos in him and out next real superstar. In the meantime he needs to work on his errors and be more selective with his moves and passes. A extended stint in the QLD Cup with Hunt would do both of then a world of good. Steve Michaels - 1/10 – Some players need to go to another team to develop, Michaels may well be that player, never regained the promise of his form of a few years back. Ivan Henjack – 8/10 – I know will be at odds with every other person here, it’s just that I think, and considering the circumstances he has done an excellent job. Any Broncos coach taking over from Bennett was on a hiding to nothing. I don’t care if it Jack Gibson coaching our team, the fact we missed the finals for the first time in 18 years anyone (including Bennett himself) would have been in the same boat as Henjack. Many forget the many times we “fell” into the Top 8 with far better and more experienced teams then what we had. I’m just saying that I think he did a good job, most will disagree.
