As a Souths fan. I bought a ticketed membership in my name for a seat I don't even sit in to pay my way for the club. My girlfriend's mum has 5 seats, so I sit in one of those seats as the process of changing names was just too difficult and we didn't want the club moving us around by mistake. So this gives more money to the club and I get the ticketed membership status that I wanted and it has worked fine for us since 2006. Outside of the crappy stuff you get with it, to be fair the stuff you get in a membership deal is probably at cost of $30 (at the most) to the club. You basically save money if you do go to a fair few games and you are always in the same seat. If you also attend away games you can sometimes get tickets slightly cheaper or in a members first pre-sale. We attend almost every Souths NSW games (Home and Away) so it can save a few dollars throughout the year. For clubs, memberships are such a great revenue stream that the AFL have been doing for years. Due to the pokies tax, most teams with Leagues clubs (in NSW atleast) can not give as much money in hand outs as they used. Eg. The Rabbitohs probably generated roughly $3 Million from our 20k members, if you base 14k ticketed members at an average of $200 a season ticket and 6k of non ticketed memberships at $90. Compare that to the last payment Souths leagues club was able to give to the football club was maybe $400k back in the mid 90's. So if you throw good sponsorship deals and then merchandise sales on top of that, the club is already up a good $6-7 million before ticket sales, NRL payments or whatever else. So the importance of memberships have never been higher. Hope that answers your question, sorry to everyone about it being so long winded and the fact it is Souths related.
