I agree mixed year with a handful of huge highlights namely the young forwards and beating top teams (except Storm) but more problems coming to the surface and not really being dealt with any of issues from last 4 years. Finishing 2 points off in what seems like a high ‘regulated competition’ agree masks the real picture. The F and A is a better metric. Biggest worry is refusal at the top to fix the obvious. A halfback (not paying a million a year to training up eventually), a fit fullback, skilful use of the Jet, lack of structure and wasted tackles inside 20, Macca for 80, refusal to engage a PR firm or some positive measures to manage the Sydney media and NRL to get a fair shake for the club paying everyone else’s bills, poor ruck management, roster mismanagement (not making Staggs 30th), no signs yet of a longer term cohesive succession plan except be click bait for guy that isn’t leaving Melbourne (this time it was give Bellamy the team and we win, last time it was give WB the team and we win premierships). Only issue can see improved this year aside from young forwards is Milford can kick well and have an heir to goal kicking which are good but not a sign of tactical genius at work. For me defence is the huge worry. Can’t go deep into September by leaking so many easy points. Part of that will be young blokes filling in for experienced defenders but a lot was also Boyd leaking 2 tries a game cause could run to get into position, Kodi being Maloney lite and what seemed like attitude. Worry is been conceding more points for 3 years in a row. They say defence wins premierships so on that metric was imo a very poor year for Broncs. If we sort this crap out (most of which is very solvable except finding a halfback perhaps with current salary cap - have to pray O’Sullivan or Dargin or one of other blokes can stand up) and retain TPJ and Oates should be red hot for a premiership window. Broncs and WB if retained has run out of excuses and seemingly goodwill of a lot of fans. Broncs are meant to be the one professional club in the sh**show that is the NRL. Add some passion for jersey and should have 2/3 top 4 finishes and at least 1 premiership next 3 years.
