He was in support because he went a crash ball to Jensen. Jensen wouldn't be my first target for a crash ball, which is kind of my concern... however I'm hoping it was more about his vision and knowing Jensen was going to be 1v1 on the goal line, which would be an automatic trigger to go for it... even then Jensen should be getting there himself 1v1 on the try line. Have to take what the defence is giving you... if they're not respecting the ptb on the 5m line then Paix can go all day... it comes down to if he's seeing something that's not there and wasting opportunities for the backline. As you say an attacking threat at dummy half forces the defence to respect him and be closer to the ball, which opens things up for the backline... it's something we've been terrible at for years now... even going back to the Macca days. I don't think it's helped by the middles not running good lines or running with intent to receive and score. It's an absolute crime that Haas is so low on tries.... he should be one of our most dangerous players close to the line. Nelson is for storm, Tino was for them when he was there... Stefano probably will be for them this year. Storm middles are a fucking threat close to the line... who could forget Wishart scoring off a crash ball last year... they can make anyone a threat that close to the line. It makes backline moves look like a training run, because the middles have to be respected and you have to number up on them. Yet Haas is zero threat at all down there... unless he gets himself into dummy half.
