Captaincy. This year we seemed to have virtually no on field direction whatsoever. When we needed someone to lead the way last night our captain was down on his haunches in backplay getting a breather. Boyd stepped up and tried his best, out of what we have, he seems the most inspirational to me and likely to give the guys a rev up if they need it. I didn't see that from Parker. Defensive line speed. We can do it, we showed against Melbourne and at certain other times throughout the year. We just need to do it to a high level consistently, particularly if we are going to stick with a smaller pack. We need multiple bodies in defence to compensate for our lack of size, which means fitness has to go through the roof this off-season. Kicking. We need to work on it like crazy. Time and time again it cost us over the last two seasons and just isn't up to scratch against top teams. Both in play and goal kicking. Composure. After all the finals footy and representative footy our guys have played over the last two years (or more) one would think composure would be understood by our playmakers, but it isn't. They panic and invariably this lack of composure ends up costing us games, just like last night. None of our spine are inexperienced any longer, they need to get their sh*t together when it matters most if we are ever going to be a genuine force. Whether some measure of it can be found through ridiculously rehearsed set plays or something I don't know. But the best players in the comp seem to know what they are going to do in every situation whereas we seem to make it up on the fly. We don't need to play like Melbourne, but taking a leaf out of their book and extensive drilling plays that can be executed whilst under fatigue would help this significantly I think.
