I respect your opinion on it and it's great we're having a civil discussion despite the disagreement. As far as I'm concerned, those big moments are the moments that separate the good from the great. I could write off one of them, perhaps even two, but he's shown a trend over the years of not performing when it really matters. I was never expecting him to be the next Warne - no one will be, but I think we can all expect he would learn from those big moments and do better with the next one, he simply hasn't shown that. Certainly acknowledge the raft of other mistakes that happened in that Stokes test. I didn't bother to mention the games in the UAE, his record in RSA and Asia, or what he's done in other Ashes series. I'm not saying he should 'destroy' batting line-ups by himself regularly, but I'd expect a spinner on day 5 in the 4th innings to be the trump card on deteriorating pitches (especially when he's renown for how much spin he gets). Those examples I mentioned were exactly those circumstances and instead of him doing his job and being a threat, we've had to try part-timers like Voges and Labuschagne to take wickets instead. I agree whoever takes his spot probably won't take 400+ test wickets but I also highly doubt they'll get to play 100+ tests if they average over 30 with the ball. That is a luxury that has been afforded to him his entire test career. My point isn't that we have anyone better right now (I do think SOK's record proves he was considerably better but a different conversation). However, I think that we can certainly criticise Lyon and look at other options when he doesn't bowl well - as has been the case for the last 18 months.
