Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted In context, they're not stupid comparisons. The argument is to change a spine of established players like Boyd, Hunt, Milford and Macca to make way for Taylor - that's all fine and dandy but I don't agree with it. Slater has been replaced by Munster while injured, and Slater is just flat out better at this point in their careers, so the grass isn't always greener on the junior side of the fence. Being "first called on" is hardly compliment of the year either, Whitchurch and Maranta (and I like Maranta!) are "first called on", and they're hardly stars. Whitchurch is still unproven, Maranta is a reliable player. As for being "developed in ISC and playing NRL when they get a chance"... That's exactly what I want! I'm happy for Taylor to develop that way, I just don't think he should be immediately thrown in as first choice 6 or 7 full time. Juniors are often too over hyped and it irks me that a guy like Boyd is talked down to talk up a guy who is 20 and hasn't even played first grade yet. Boyd won a premiership in the NRL before his 20th birthday, was playing for Australia and Queensland at age 20 and played a key part in another premiership by age 23. Hardly the makings of a player who doesn't even deserve a shot at fullback and should be shifted to the wing before he's even allowed to prove his worth in the spine of a team he's just re-joined. People can "not rate" him all they like, but to write him off for the sake of a unproven reserve grader is in my view, ridiuclous. Taylor is signed till next year, it's not "now or never", he can bide his time and prove his worth by being consistently very good in the reserve grades, injuries, player transfers and many other potential factors will get him chances in first grade, it's then up to him to prove he deserves to stay there.
