The only positive I could see in enforcing the follow-on is that the confidence of the English batsmen is shot to bits. They would've hated to go back in but it's funny in cricket how a 'backs to the wall' scenario does produce career saving innings. Root nearly pulled it off and I don't think Cook is far off.
