[QUOTE="Super Freak, post: 2700796, member: 8536"] The Brisbane Broncos opened their Thursday night rout of South Sydney with two tries that encapsulated their 2015 season. The first was finished by Jordan Kahu six minutes into the 47-12 win, the second a runaway Corey Oates effort and both came off the back of a set that beginning deep in Brisbane's defensive territory. It's not the only time the Broncos have been able to punish thier opponents after holding them out on their own goal line. [LEFT][COLOR=#000000] In fact, they have finished their counter attacking plays in the most damaging way more times than any other side in the NRL. After their Thursday night rout at South Sydney, the Broncos led the competition for the most tries following a defensive set in their own 10. Of 100 tries this season, the most in the league, Brisbane has scored 11 off the back of a defensive set within their own 10, according to Prozone data. Surprisingly, wooden spooners Wests Tigers have the highest proportion of tries after being in their defensive 10, though their nine is two less than Brisbane's tally. It's a statistic that could prove crucial in finals games where every scoring opportunity shapes as season-defining. Brisbane's defence has made marked improvements since the Rabbitohs ran in 36 points in their season opener at Suncorp Stadium and it's something that coach Wayne Bennett has said is giving them confidence. After returning the favour in their Round 25, Bennett again praised the defensive efforts after Brisbane ran in eight tries to two. "Our attack is on and off," he said. "Our defence has been pretty constant all year. "First game against South Sydney and another against Manly [in round 21] were the only blow-outs we've had all year." The Broncos will need a big win against the Melbourne Storm on Thursday night to claim top spot on the NRL ladder, currently sitting behind the Roosters on points difference. If the Cowboys beat the Storm in their penultimate home game, Brisbane's Round 26 match becomes must-win for a top two spot and a crucial home advantage for a qualifying final, which looks like being a Queensland derby.
