Haas, still just 19 years of age, was named the winner of the medal as the Broncos’ Player of the Year tonight. At the start of this season Haas had played just three NRL matches as an interchange player for the Broncos before suffering a shoulder injury. Just over six months later, he has been named Dally M Rookie of the Year, has represented NSW in State of Origin, and is on the cusp of a Test debut for the Kangaroos. He ran away with the Broncos’ award on the back of his continuously-outstanding displays in the front row, despite missing the first four games of the season. He finished ahead of front row partner Matt Lodge, who mounted a challenge through the second half of the NRL season. Anthony Milford, Andrew McCullough and Alex Glenn made up the rest of the names on the final leader board. Haas, who was not present on the night after playing with the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII in Fiji this afternoon, also took the Players’ Player award voted on by his teammates. Lodge had to make do with being named Best Forward for his 2019 contributions. Young centre Kotoni Staggs signalled his bright future by earning the Best Back trophy. And the ever-present Glenn again took home the Most Consistent Player award. Thomas Flegler and Pat Carrigan shared the Rookie of the Year award after their own strong debut seasons. Jake Turpin and Tevita Pangai junior were named for the Play of the Year honour, after combining to produce the match-winning try against the Sharks in round 16.
