Big example was Game 1 1997 when Johns was named at hooker with Toovey in the halves and when Johns went off with a twisted ankle in the 30th minute Toovey swapped positions and went to hooker and John Simon took Toovey's spot in the halves. Toovey went on to play a major role in NSW's 8-6 win as he got the Blues out of trouble plenty of times in the second half, with his darting runs from dummy half. Very sketchy NSW team in that game, Toovey swapping positions with Johns, John Simon coming of the bench and playing in the halves, McGregor going of early in the game (he returned later in the first half and scored the Blues try) and Ken McGuiness playing in the centers and doing a good job on Matt Sing.
