https://www.broncos.com.au/news/2019/02/16/young-guns-fire-in-broncos-trial-win/ THE Broncos’ young guns have shown off their talents with a crushing 42-0 trial match victory in Warwick tonight. A young Brisbane squad outclassed Intrust Super Cup outfit Souths Logan Magpies as some pre-season hard work paid dividends. Four tries in 10 minutes after halftime gave the Broncos complete control of the trial game. Leading 16-0 at the break, returning monster Payne Haas split the Magpies’ defence wide open in the 44th minute. He rumbled 30 metres to score next to the post, the conversion from Herbie Farnworth making it 22-0. Two minutes later Jake Turpin penetrated a gap and ran 20 metres before off-loading to young half Tom Dearden. Dearden was covered but found fullback Tesi Niu unmarked on his outside. It was turning into a procession when Patrick Mago made another incision in the line and then put another young half in Cory Paix away. Paix was caught just short of the line, but some quick hands to the outside allowed former Rabbitohs’ winger Richie Kennar to cross untouched. The conversion was missed but that brought the score to 32-0 with 29 minutes remaining. Just after that Paix again found himself in open space and this time was able to score the try to bring it to 38-0. Haas nearly scored again but cannoned into the left-hand upright head first in the 68th minute, leaving the field straight after the collision. Gehamat Shibasaki made a clean break with seven minutes to go but was caught from behind. Some quick hands to the outside gave speedy youngster Xavier Coats the space to slip down the sideline to score. The Broncos started 2019 just like they wanted to when Dearden scored after just one minute. The young half would back that up just before the halftime break when he went over near the posts to make it two tries in his first half of football as a Bronco. Crafty hooker Jake Turpin also scored early, spearing over from dummy half in the 10th minute to make it 10-0. When Dearden dotted down before the break the Broncos had a 16-0 advantage. BRISBANE BRONCOS 42 (T Dearden 2, J Turpin, P Haas, T Niu, R Kennar, C Paix, X Coates tries; Herbie Farnworth 5 goals) defeated SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES 0 at Father Ranger Oval, Warwick.
