[QUOTE="Morkel, post: 2554903, member: 8215"] Wow, so 2013 was the year that had to happen. Good old unlucky '13. In reality, we had by far the most unlucky year possible. We lost so many games by not many points, were shafted in many of those games with bad calls, and generally just did not get the bounce of the ball. Injury-wise it was horrible for the backs. In reality, the team was pretty awful, even if we'd had heaps more luck we still wouldn't have gone very far. But having such a bad year meant that everyone was put on notice - players and staff - and for the first time in a long time they realised that the Broncos don't get success by default, they have to fucking earn it. So far there have been excellent signs that they've learned that lesson and, as someone said above, the wrongs are being righted. For such a proud club, it would be hard to publicly admit failings, in fact I would have expected these things to happen behind closed doors and things put in place more subtly. But maybe they really are scared that the fans will turn their backs, and decided to let them know that their concerns are truly being heeded. In terms of major changes, that many of us were calling for: * Poor fitness. They've now fired the old trainers and brought in a new mob. * Poor recruitment. Not only have they gone out and played hard-ball in the market, they've also gone to major lengths to secure fundamental regions in order to aid future recruitment. * Lack of speed. Barba & Milford will certainly help that. * Poor halves. Sent them both packing. * McCullough not developing. Put him on notice by chasing Smith. * Thaiday poor captain. Stripped him of that role so he can concentrate on his game. * Griffin bad coach. Given him 10 games (apparently) to keep his job. They really are everything the fans called for. Which means we're all geniuses and could actually run the club (as some would like to think), or, unfortunately, they're shit out of ideas, addressing the problems on the surface, but not getting to the root of the problem. I still think that despite our impotent attack, our defence was a major concern. Fitness will address it somewhat, but keeping Kearney involved in that role (well, in any role really) is still an issue in my eyes. But in any case, the changes that have been made are all positive changes and will only help the club in the long term. Booting the halves & stripping Sam of the (c) might cause some short-term headaches, but again, long term, they're for the best. In fact, by showing the players that even the captain is not safe from scrutiny, and the team comes before individuals, it also shows players like Hoffman that playing for the Broncos is a privelage and playing where the team needs you is what has to be done.
