[QUOTE="Morkel, post: 2889338, member: 8215"] The Storm have had a charmed run. So many benefits from keeping Smith, Cronk & Slater together illegally. If they would have stayed together without cheating, why did they cheat? It's not just their skillset, but their work ethic that Melbourne have enjoyed. No team does everything with the intensity of the Storm. You hear that everything is done at 100%. No exceptions. Which is great in theory, but you see what happens when other teams try to do the same - like Souths, you just burn players out. That's why the Storm have such a high turnover of players, and why more often than not they're less than half as effective for other clubs. Most players can't keep it up for that long. They're spent. It takes them years to recover, if they ever do. But with those 3 players there as effectively the best of a generation, it's easy to plug other players in there - they just have to be willing to, and prove that they can, put at least one or two seasons together of the highest intensity, no-respite effort. As to why the Storm can seemingly recruit so much better than the Broncos, for one pretty much every position has been up for grabs except the 1, 7 and 9. They've had a revolving door for five-eighths since 2006, so they're able to lure and retain multiple promising halves with the carrot of playing in one of the greatest spines ever. With no mainstay, the position is up for grabs almost every single season. Who wouldn't want that opportunity? And now that Cronk is going, Slater is almost done, and Smith looks like powering on as Captain Invincible, there are even more positions up for grabs. With the Broncos, since late 2013 our halves have been seemingly locked in. Milford didn't get here until 2015 but as soon as he was announced, Hunt and Milford were our long term halves. From 2015 they were regarded as the future Qld and possibly Australian halves. There's always injuries, and as we've seen, there's million dollar contracts to break that plan, but while this current crop of young halves were deciding their futures, the Broncos would have been one of, if not the most, difficult teams to get a crack in.
