[QUOTE="Kooly87, post: 3534747, member: 9326"] Taking ‘it’s not about the money’ and then extrapolating that into not caring about how much he gets paid at all is just ridiculous. Of course he cares about the money. Literally everyone cares about the money. Even Pat Carrigan isn’t going to play for minimum wage. His Manager’s statement was actually quite clear and to the point - they’ve had interest for a negotiation after November 1 from all 16 rival clubs, which I honestly wouldn’t doubt is true, and that he’d like to field those offers and weigh up the pros and cons of both. That’s before we even consider any interest from outside the NRL. He may well sincerely mean it when he says it isn’t ONLY about the money. I suspect if he could get a similar of even better offer to ours from someone like the Roosters or maybe Melbourne, that would objectively be something worth considering or at least getting to weigh up. If he could get a sky high offer out of someone like the Bulldogs or Tigers etc, that might have to count for something too. I’m sure they have a fair idea what he’s worth, but realistically without a contract on his Manager’s desk, all the talk from those clubs is still just talk - most clubs would likely have to shift their own deck chairs before November 1 to fit him in, and then likely also get the NRL to sign off on anything as well, before a deal of this magnitude can be taken seriously and signed by Haas’ management team. The bidding war certainly worked for David Fifita and it’s just plain good business sense for Haas team to do the same here. We can try and hardball him but anyone can see from an outsiders perspective that he has literally all the leverage right now, so we really don’t have a great deal of choice right now. He IS in demand and it’s a luxury his performances have afforded him in this negotiation. I’m pretty comfortable that if we’re close enough, we should be good enough to get him over the line. We don’t need to be the top bidder, but we probably also can’t afford to get significantly outbid by another powerhouse like the Roosters either, because once you add in those ‘culcha’ payments on top, those offers are always on the radar for just about every star player in the NRL that ever comes off contract.
