He had some absolute clangers. And before I go into it, I will say that the Dragons were far and away the better team in the second half especially. I just think the following list of clangers shows how much easier it was made for the Dragons. 1. First half. Jason Ryles loses the ball in a tackle. Simply a loose carry and heavy contact. Video ref rules a rake. Dragons penalty. 2. First half. Darren Lockyer takes an intercept, then Ryles is all over him and he loses it in the play the ball. Video ref looks at it, no dramas, knock on. I don't have a problem with that call, but the same should've gone for the Dragons one earlier. 3. Second half. Darren Lockyer knocks the ball down while making a tackle. No way he played at it. It was the 4th tackle. Maxwell gives Dragons 6 more tackles. On the 4th tackle of the new set (so 8th tackle really), Gasnier strolls over to put them in front. 4. Second half. Blatant forward pass while on the attack let go. On the last, bomb goes up, Gasnier scores to put them ahead 24-14. 5. 10 minutes to go. Kemp gets a rushed pass away, Manihera takes it and scores. Maxwell sends it up stairs presumably to check that Manihera picked it up cleanly, and to check Kemp didn't lose it in the tackle forward. Clearly shows Kemp was offloading so vid ref can't rule on whether it went forward, Manihera picks it up and grounds it cleanly. For some unknown reason, the vid ref says "ref's call"...and Maxwell, having seen it on the replay screen, rules it was forward! This is despite a) the touch judge standing in goal indicating he thought the pass was fine, and b) the ball was let go by Kemp and picked up by Manihera flat at WORST. Try would've made it 24-18 or 24-20 with 10 to go. 5 clangers. Very game changing. I was disgusted. But that said, the Broncos didn't play well enough to deserve to win. And I better not read people writing Kemp off for his pass in the dying seconds that went over Manihera's head into touch. He a) scored the first try with great anticipation, and b) threw a beautiful ball for Manihera's try in the first half. He had a good game at fullback and showed he's not just a finisher. He also showed he's no K. Oh, and a big UP YOURS to Hodges. Not saying the Broncos would've won the last 2 games had he played, but I guarantee we could've used his experience out there. So yeah, UP YOURS HODGO YOU IMMATURE PRAT!
