[QUOTE="Coxy, post: 2486969, member: 1764"] Agree. League won't "die". It'll always be around. But I do agree that it's continuing to be held back by the same failings it's always had - and ironically State of Origin is a symptom of it. The game is insular. It's so protective of its history as a NSW-QLD game that any expansion is half arsed. Any break away from the control of QRL and NSWRL is token only. While club bosses and NRL/ARLC management might talk glowingly about the "product" and how we need to "take it to the masses" and "expand our reach" during their annual talkfests, when it comes down to action the old "how will this benefit ME, and MY CLUB and MY STATE" mentality kicks in. And all it takes is a couple of the big clubs in Sydney (or even the Broncos) to say "no, we don't like that idea" and suddenly the NRL backs away and gives it up. So when I say State of Origin is a symptom of this mentality, it's that there's an attitude that while State of Origin continues to sell out, attract huge TV ratings etc, then obviously the game is going well. There's no real thought to how to expand it nationally or internationally. None at all. I don't know how they do it, but the AFL seems to have a near perfect blend of "This is the way the game has to move forward" as well as respecting the history of its oldest and dearest clubs. I both admire and despise them. They also realise internationally they're never going to be more than a curiosity, but they play up to that. Look at their advertising. League doesn't do that. It tries to make itself out to be everyone's game, the greatest game of all, everyone wants it - yet still get stuck in the mud of NSW-QLD being the "home" of the game. It's almost schizophrenic.
