If you want to try your hand with the Wobblies and make a motza, do it. Just don't um and ah or use it as a bargaining chip to start (yet again) the ridiculous debate about "ooo, we need to keep our marquee players in the game, pay them anything". Blah. Thurston has proven himself to be a very good player, a bit like Shaun Berrigan, excelling out of position at halfback to fill a need for club, state and country. As it is now though, there's specialist halfbacks coming through that are far better than him in that position, so it's probably time to step aside...this is a good way to do it and save face. Ultimately he doesn't deserve a pay upgrade to stay in league - he's already in the top 3 highest paid players (allegedly). He hasn't done anything to warrant more. A show and go is great, but he's very one dimensional. It'd be interesting to see how he goes as a fly half or inside centre at Union. He thrives on room to move, and modern union seems to be a dog fight, so he might well find himself feeling a bit unwanted and unloved. But hey, give it a go buddy. As I said, just do your negotiations now and sign before the season starts. Don't let your contract be a media circus that takes interest away from the game of rugby league. [/QUOTE]
