Highlights of the Mal Meninga Semi Finals Meninga Cup: Semi finals - QRL Highlights of the Cyril Connell Semi Finals Connell Cup: Semi finals - QRL I'm not a fan of assessing players on highlights alone but it's the best we've got at the moment. Stingers/Devils: Townsville looked to be a more organised team than the Devils and played with better shape. In fact, that's what I put their first try down to. Had Norths played with better shape and made better choices, Salam wouldn't have been able to pounce on (Spaander's?) forward pass and raced 80 odd metres. Tries like that really hurt and while Norths were able to construct some tries of their own, most of them seemed like individual efforts. It seemed like a good battle between Spaander/Dunn with Mitchell just pulling it out. Also was that really Ponga at fullback? I notice he isn't playing in the GF and would have to assume that it was actually Hudson back there. The scoreline flattered Norths somewhat given Lanksey scored on the bell. It was basically all over at 26-16. Easts/CQ: Seemed like the Cameron show. I'm sure the forwards played their role too, but Cameron really directed them around the ruck and 4/5 tries required his involvement. Bit of a shame for CQ. They certainly had their moments but it looked like they just let it get away from them. How about Fuller's first half? Great individual effort to open the scoring then a nice long pass to Pinkerton to score in the corner. Also a great individual effort by second-rower Adamson to race 60 odd metres in the second half. Fair effort for Easts to get there way back in this and it appeared they just had too much grunt and the Capras couldn't contain them as fatigued set in. Falcons/White - The Falcons really ran away with this one but would have been nervous when the GC pegged them back to 6 points. Fortunately an error in the in-goal allowed them to get away with the win. I liked what I saw of Walker and Trindall. Magpies/Stingers - A close one, you'd have to be filthy if you were a Souths Logan fan given the Stingers scored off a silly chip kick from Souths. The ruck defence seemed very shoddy in this one so it's difficult to draw many conclusions.
