When you compare the free to air components the NRL have shit upon the gAyFL. Ours are for a year less, less games and yet we still come out ahead i.e. NRL = $925m over 4 years, AwFuL = $900m over 5 years The paytv component would have have been the same. News would have come crawling back to the negotiating table because they can not afford the subscription drain that would occur if they no longer had NRL on their program. Smith and the NRL did the right thing when they found out the News and ch 10 were going to team up lowball them in the first place. Smith was brought in as an independent entity to negotiate the next round of tv rights free from the shackles of rugby league drama and ties. I didn't give two shits that he didn't know who the Aussie Captain was or got Barba's name wrong that wasn't his job as far as I'm concerned. His job got us in the right direction of the NRL controlling how we negotiate where our games goes rather than kowtowing to fucking murdoc like we have for the last 20 years. It now looks like the the negotiations for the last part of the tv rights will consist of the NRL bending over for the insertion of the news ltd pineapple. Smith's 'resignation' is bullshit, pissweak and as far as I'm concerned looking like the blackest day for our sport.......
