Former Brisbane Broncos NRL players Ian Lacey and John Te Reo have been given suspended prison sentences over the bashing of a man outside a Brisbane pub last year.

Lacey, 23, and Te Reo, 21, were originally charged with grievous bodily harm over the incident.

He sentenced both to six months prison but ordered the terms be wholly suspended.

Idiots. Lacey was awesome, Te Reo could have been great for us.

Man, imagine going from $100,000 to $500 a game...that would suck. Hope they have learned their lessons.

Bastards shouldve been locked up if found guilty. The guy they beat up must be pissed off.

Hmm. Not going to really comment on here because of where I work, but I will say that it's unlikely they would've avoided jail if the resulting injuries were quite serious.

Still, pretty lucky boys... plenty facing the Court on the same charges find themselves away for a few months.

Lacey was a mad ass player, i realy like him. Can't remember much about Te reo what position did he play? was it in the centres i can't remember.
I was realy disapointed when i heard what they did.

He played hooker and second row...I'm not sure if he's played in the centres.

Te Reo played everything from hooker to centres and back row - pretty sure I saw him play at 5/8 too.

Lacey used to be one of my fave players at the club, had watched him carve up ever since playing for the Broncos Colts around 2002, and then onto the Clydesdales.

Lacey was rubbish. Fat and slow.
He would always double pump before passing from dummy half.

Agreed he was never up to it in the NRL. Think I just used to like his style in the lower grades, but IMO definitely never will make it in the top grade.

I thought he was excellent for us. Reliable and Dependable. Just when you needed someone to help defend, there he was.

Other side of the park... again, he was there.
