According to the Foxsports team.

Fittler, you can understand but why would the Knights release Smith? He's turned the team around.

Wasn't there a big article in Rugby League week about how Smith was going to be rewarded with a contract extension at the end of the season?

Seems a bit strange.

Yeah, I find it very confusing myself.

Maybe they meant Tony Smith? Although they did say Brian Smith and mentioned the Knights.

Gus & Smith are great friends.

Doesn't Smith have a year to run at the Knights, maybe Politis threw some coins the Knights way.

Or did Smith only sign for 3 years

Newcastle coach Brian Smith has reportedly signed on to coach the Sydney Roosters from next season.

The Nine Network reports Smith will replace Brad Fittler at the helm of the Bondi-based club in 2010, ending his three-year association with the Knights

Wow that's quite a surprise.

Smith was really starting to get the ball rolling at the Knights.

Good signing for the Woosters. They'll probably struggle for a couple more years, but Brian Smith is excellent at rebuilding clubs, so they'll start to come good fairly soon IMO.

Brian Smith is excellent at cleaning out clubs. Will the Roosters have any players left?

My mail, and I stand by it, is that Peter Sharp had the gig.
Smith and Sharp are great mates.
Has there been a backdoor deal done under the cover of darkness that will see Sharp at the Knights?

What I will say is that Sharp will be in involved again next year.
I still say the Roosters.

Smith's daugher is rumoured to be wanting to go to a Sydney Uni.

Brian Smith extends stay at Knights
From: The Daily Telegraph February 27, 2009 12:00AM

Newcastle have finalised the re-signing of coach Brian Smith until at least the end of the 2010 NRL season.

The new deal includes triggers which could see the tenure extended beyond next year, though the exact nature of the triggers were not disclosed

Smith asked for a release.

I am hearing he signed with the Chooks for 4 years, though he never completes his contracts.

I wouldn't mind him being signed at the Broncos tbh. He's exactly the sort of coach needed here!
