It isn’t dead but it’s dying and this isn’t because of CA, at least not only. This is just the reality of world cricket now. There are already too many T20 leagues as it is and more to come. T20 is being pushed for the Olympics and the amount of countries currently playing it is huge. The current Asia Cup I’m pretty sure used to be 50 overs and is now 20 but I could be wrong on this. The gun ODI players tend to often also be gun 20 overs players, there’s a lot of crossover. Recently Ben Stokes retired from ODI to prolong his test and T20 career and more are expected to follow suit. Trent Boult has refused a central NZ contract because it would restrict his access to T20 leagues around the world and this has been a long problem for the West Indies already anyway. Their best players are only available to represent WI in T20. David Warner had to be offered a massive bonus to play in the Big Bash instead of another league. Chris Lynn is going to another league while the BBL is on. This is going to be an ongoing trend. Look at the futures schedule, ODI around the world is increasingly getting pushed out and even more so now this stupid hundred competition has come in as well. Little of this is within CA’s power and there is little CA can do to stop it.
