I’m not anywhere near replacing marsh yet. Nobody else is giving him the platform to play risky cricket. The risk of his batting style is just so much riskier when the runs aren’t on the board. Brought him back into his shell a little bit. Would say that he is by far the easiest to replace in terms of people performing in his position in shield though. Hardie, Webster (yuck but he is performing), Davies, JFM would all get introduced down at 6 if picked. You could even possibly get a Neser in at 7 and bat Carey at 6 but neither our batting or Carey have been good enough for that at the minute. Hardie is the only one I’d pick but that’s where batters are performing or bring a certain style that suits what we want from 6 more so than anywhere else. McSweeney and Clayton probably the only 2 in the country you’d pick in the 3 or 4 role in terms of technique and batting style that are remotely performing but I wouldn’t be anywhere near selecting them. If Green or Labuschagne were to get injured you’d be moving Smith and Khawaja down and picking Bancroft, Renshaw and Harris up top before selecting those 2 at this stage in their careers. You might find McSweeney could get a crack but until his double 50’s he’d looked to have regressed in form a bit. That 6 role is quite unique in that you can include short form cricket results into the discussion whereas you can’t really elsewhere unless they have been particularly good at an international level with the back up of good red ball form in shield. But that isn’t happening at the minute
