GREG Inglis will take a $100,000 pay cut to join the Broncos as Brisbane chief executive Bruno Cullen last night blasted suggestions the club had rorted the salary cap to sign the Melbourne superstar. The Daily Telegraph can reveal Inglis has agreed to a significant downgrade on his deal with the Broncos, whose base two-year contract is less than the $575,000 a season the superstar Maroons centre earned in Melbourne. It is understood that even with a marquee player allowance and a sponsored car, Inglis's deal with Brisbane is worth no more than $520,000 annually. A purported $30,000 ambassador's deal with the Former Origin Greats (FOGS) organisation has not been included in Inglis's Broncos contract because of a dispute with the NRL over the specifics of the arrangement. Inglis's manager Allan Gainey last night hit out at the "hugely inflated" salary estimates - some as high as $660,000 - that sparked fresh concern over Brisbane's ability to snare rugby league's most devastating centre within the code's salary cap laws. Gainey confirmed Inglis had taken a financial hit to join the Broncos. The pressure is now on the veteran player agent to bolster the Queensland Origin star's potential earnings by tapping into the club's vast corporate network. "Greg has taken a pay cut to go to Brisbane," Gainey said. "I am so sick of reading incorrect figures. The figures are so hugely inflated it's not funny. Greg could stand to earn more but the onus is on me to find those third party deals." Reports yesterday suggested the Storm had provided at least a $40,000 subsidy to the Broncos - but Gainey claimed Melbourne had not outlaid a cent. "Greg has not been paid anything from the Melbourne Storm to leave. I would like to verify that," he said. "He's just relieved the whole thing is over and he can focus on football." An angry Cullen also went on the attack last night, insisting Inglis had taken less to join the club. "I am suggesting quite strongly Greg has taken a substantial pay cut to come [here]," he said. "Claims we have rorted the cap are ridiculous."
