I think Kobe has worked best when he's coming off the bench and using his footwork against tired defenders to keep the roll on. That's exactly what he did in that play against Newcastle. The stats have him playing only 16mins in that game, so the question would be can he still have that impact if he was into his 60th minute of the game and that same situation popped up... (Sidenote: why the **** did he play so few minutes? bench use was so fucked...) Even in his stellar 2023 there were a couple games where he started at 13 and him running straight into fresh defenders wasn't great for his output. He's not a Cam Murray that is finding his way between tacklers from the first minute. I do think there's room for him to develop though... he's basically been averaging under 40mins per game since he's been here... there may be room for him to come on at 30mins and play out the rest of the game and to me that's probably where he should be aiming to be this year... that would allow us to finish a game with Payne, Patty and Kobe in the middle, but is that better than Payne, Patty and Willison finishing the game 🤔🤔 There's too much disrespect for the bench in modern league... back in the mid-2000's to 2010's I can understand wanting to be a starter, because so many starting forwards played the full 80mins... but there aren't many that can do that nowadays. I think the aim for forwards should just be playing more than 40mins. Would he prefer to be a starter that plays under 40mins a game and getting folded by the fresh defence or a bench middle that plays 50mins a game and plays a key roll in maintaining momentum when he first comes on. It's the same for Mozer... if he's playing more than 40mins then he's the preferred hooker in the team... it shouldn't matter what number they have on their back.
