Panthers General Manager Phil Gould has been negotiating with Griffin behind the scenes for several weeks and is expected to make an announcement on Wednesday. Griffin was sacked by the Broncos in 2015 but is credited with leaving the club in great shape for Wayne Bennett to take the team to this year’s grand final. The Daily Telegraph understands the relationship between Cleary and Gould started to deteriorate over the dumping of Trent Barrett as assistant coach.
