It's tough and I feel for him and the club. I don't think it's that a big a loss because it would imply the Broncos had something to begin with. Bird has hardly contributed to the club outside of his first game at 7 against the Warriors in 2018. I don't think it's been through a lack of trying, but when Bird wasn't plagued with injury he was making costly errors that either directly led to tries or bombed opportunities. I don't even think his trial form was that impressive. He was easily handled in the Cowboys game and while he was sniffing around the ball against the Gold Coast, the only meaningful contribution he made was chasing a kick. I think Bird was always a throw of the dice and fans were hoping he'd be just like Hodges when he had shown next to nothing to suggest he'd be at this level. It does create an embarrassing aboutface where Seibs will have to go back to Isaako but in a way, naming him on the bench saved him some embarrassment since he wasn't out of the 17 altogether like he should have been. Brisbane really need to cut bait on Bird and just let everyone move on with their lives. As for the immediate future, they'll give Isaako an opportunity but it's clear the coaching staff don't have any faith in him. They may just stick with Arthars who is a very similar style of player like Alex Johnston who Seibs stuck with through out 2018 but he shouldn't be considered a long term option. They'll have to hit the player market and hope they can sign a Ponga, otherwise they'll likely have to settle for Walsh and I don't think he'd be able to make any real difference until 2022.
