Guy had it all: work-rate, foot-work, power, ball skills and had the capacity to absolutely carve teams up. In 2011, he was still good but wasn't making the same impact. That was a pretty average year for backrows admittedly, but if I was deciding on the award, it would have gone to Feleti Mateo who really saved his career in 2011 and helped the Warriors find their way to the grand final. He was also the highest polling second row that year, so clearly the judges agreed with me. Snap back to 2013, and the reality is, the Kangaroos like to have specialists in their position hence they've gone for the natural right side pairing of Hodges and Thaiday. Hodges position is a little debatable, I'm sure some might argue for a player like Tate but I don't think there's currently a better right edge player than Thaiday.
