[QUOTE="Thelmus, post: 3105906, member: 8988"] Theres 3 trial games and the nines'. If we can't figure our who is playing well enough to play first grade then it isn't the problems of players' form but the blokes who pick them. Macca 2 years ago was good enough for origin. Boyd a few years ago was playing for Australia. If they are as old and decrepit as is being made out, then it shouldn't be too hard for the up and coming players to prove themselves better players. If form is seasonal and players coping with injury, out of position, poor defensive partners, mental issues etc. has an impact on their performances, then a preseason should prove that. Either way, I don't see the problem. We won't pick players on what they might have been but on what they can do. If Macca and boyd's performances are not good enough, then picking someone, just because they are young and might someday be better is like going to the roulette and throwing it all on the 20, because it hasn't come up and is due. They need to show they are better. We have plenty of potental. If they show they can be better, they will be picked, but they have to show it. Macca and boyd weren't the only players having a shocker last year and there were a lot of young players showing some major issues, either defensively or with reading the game. It just got glossed over because you can also see potential if they get it right. But they have to get it right! Being young and not putting in because you're not conditioned enough won't cut it round 1. Nor will coming back from injury, mental hangups, playing out of position etc. The excuses are gone. The players know what they need to do and where they will be playing if they are good enough, but they have to be good enough, because we don't pick on what you might do or might have done, but what you are going to do.
