[QUOTE="Big Pete, post: 2997921, member: 1899"] Tough break for the Cowboys, but that was the gamble they made with the Barba signing. Either they got an amazing fullback for a steal ($300,000 is a bargain) or it blows up in your face. If there's any positive the Cowboys can take away from this, it's that it all transpired in the pre-season. Had it happened mid-way through the season, it'd be far more difficult to manage. Long-term, this may actually prove a blessing in disguise. The Barba-Cowboys arrangement was only guaranteed for a season and it seemed to hinge on whether the Cowboys could sign Valentine Holmes. I'm 80% certain that Valentine will sign with the Cowboys for 2020 and they will have one of the best players in the competition. Don't kid yourselves with Darius Boyd, Jordan Kahu or Jamayne Isaako - the Cows have their sights set higher. What this move means, is that instead of having Barba fill in for a year and having to negotiate between Te Maire Martin and Jake Clifford, they can focus more on Clifford who is the most exciting halfback prospect coming through the grades. It may not pan out that way from the word go, but come 2020 Clifford and Martin will be better off. I still have a lot of respect for Paul Green. Last season he was dealt some very harsh lessons and provided he learns from them, there's no reason he can't achieve the same level of success he was able to from 2014-17. The Cowboys have one of the best middle rotations in the competition, Morgan has shown he has what it takes to lead the side around the park and Coen Hess has the ability to be the most destructive edge forward in the game - I wouldn't write them off for a spot in the top 8.
