St. George Illawarra 40 defeat Warriors 16. Young and Hornby have done a pretty good job with the Dragons. Nothing overly fancy, they just look big, fit and have a lot of respect for the footy. Their strengths mostly lie in the forwards - lots of big boppers who were able to lay a nice platform for their nippy spine players. Jack Bird is clearly going to be a stand out, sort of reminds me of Luke Lewis in that he has a nice balance to his game - he can make good runs but also has some nice skills to his repertoire. However, my stand out for the game was their hooker Hayden Mcrae who I thought really played off the front foot, asked plenty of questions and provided the Dragons with a nice flow through the middle. I'll be keeping an eye on their fullback Matt Dufty too. Seems like only a young kid, but he's already scored 5 tries for the Dragons and he looks like an absolute speedster. Scored a great length of the field try and was unlucky not to score another as he tripped over one of his support runners. I get the feeling that he'll be right up there in the top try-scorers list by the end of the year. On the other hand, this looks like the weakest Warriors NYC outfit they've ever fielded. Not that it's really all that surprising, they made a decision at the start of the season to move their best players to the NSW Cup which I think is a good move but it's telling on their NYC side. They just didn't give themselves a chance in this game, too much dropped ball and Lino's decision making was extremely poor. If they can control the ball and find somebody else to partner Lino in the halves (did Roache even play?) then they may come good at the back end of the season.
