The 'brighter' wall to Milford's right (his left) is a result of the flash. In fact, the only thing that points to it being a fake is the fact that bricks to Milford's left are slightly creamier in colour. But it's a combination of optical illusion (because the smooth white of the whiteboard finishes behind Milford's head it makes the background starkly different on his two sides at the top) and camera lighting - look inside Stuart's opened art - same cream colour.
