The whole way we get policed in the ruck seems like whoever was coaching defense was not on the same page as the top teams. We get away with less and thus the players become hesitant, even for a moment which at an elite level is enough for the opposition to eek out an advantage. Need to fix that. Was calling this out after the first couple of games last year. We were a far different team fitness wise. 2023 it was a hallmark where even if we were a bit behind on the score board, we were just so insanely fitter than most of the opposition we started to shred them in the last 10 - often able to turn close losses into wins. Last year they were gassed in the first 20 against the better teams. Something went off the boil hard in their conditioning for such a stark difference - really hoping that MMs hard fitness approach puts us back to 2023 standards of conditioning - less injuries, more intensity and the rest flows from there. We bounced teams off our lines for 4-5 repeat sets and didn't even look like cracking. A lot of that is defensive structures - with a critical failure point of fatigue which didn't seem to be a major factor in 2023. They were just so fit, they ground teams out on our own try line which had all the footy experts going WTF. This shouldn't happen. We had the least tries scored on us vs time spent in our red zone of any team in recent memory. They didn't just suddenly forget how to play footy - that was fitness.
