Yeah, but what does he expect when he's getting paid a million dollars??? Do players not even do the maths on this? Actually, don't answer that. Unless you play for one of the two teams that has an unlimited salary cap, if you pay one player massive dollars, it takes money away from the players that you are able to surround them with. For Milford to get the perfect scenario that he seems in order to perform, he needs not only an organising half to steer the team around to get field position and build pressure, but a forward pack that is able to win the ruck for you. And a hooker that is able to feed the team good ball. And a top level fullback or outside back sniffing around to take heat off the playmakers so that there is not just one point of attack that the opposition needs to shut down. How do you pay for that when you can only put massive dollars in to one of those areas? If clubs really took the time to reflect, you'd have to think that not one single million dollar contract has been worth it to a team. Taumalolo has been the closest thing to a one-man game changer. But the moment he is off the field the Cowboys turn to shit, and if teams are good enough to shut him down, they have nothing. Ben Hunt's contract was just stupid. DCE is probably the poster-boy for my argument - he is great at one of those aspects (organising the team), but his contarct has meant that the team surrounding him has lacked, and they are only competitive when Purple Patch Turbo is on the field (and moving forward, how much will he demand? 2x $1 million dollar players in a team?). The Titans with Taylor, and now Fifita, more proof. Unless you're Melbourne and can stockpile talent, or the Roosters and be able to "negotiate" million-dollar quality in multiple important positions at lower-than-market rates, you simply should not pay a player that sort of money and expect the team to benefit from it. The Cowboys, the Broncos, the Dragons, the Titans, the Sea Eagles. The Knights with Pearce and Ponga. The Warriors with RTS. None of these teams have even been consistently in the finals, let alone challenging for a premiership. Food for thought also with what reports are regarding Haas?
