I live pretty close to parra stadium and some good mates are eels fans so i see a lot of their games. Used to a be a team i really hated, especially early 2000's, so often cheered for the opposition but its hard for me to still hate them after years of being so bad, especially when there are more deserving teams of my anger like the Storm, Bulldogs and Souths. Agree that hooker is a problem, Keating is a dud. Kinda like Canberra they never seem to have a decent hooker which holds them back. they also put their eggs in a few signing baskets over the last few years which didn't pay off like Justin Poore, Tonga and Sandow. Not to mention the overs they are probably shelling out for Hayne. this means they are constantly carrying a few lower grade quality players in the side which the other players cant carry. I think they are trying to recover as a club, Hoppa could be a great signing assuming he gets back to speed quickly, he was a gun player his last year at Manly. They have been in the player market, just not successfully and unlucky to get knocked back by Papali after initial agreement. Their recruitment has not been unlike ours, we have just walked away rather than pay overs. I'm going to be really interested to see how Norman goes. I was someone happy to see him leave the Broncos but i kind of want him to succeed at parra as long as it is not against the Broncos. They have a fairly loyal fanbase that supports them regardless even though they know their team is rubbish. They also have a massive band wagon support demographic so if Ricky can build the team, the people will come. As for an earlier comment, i think Hayne would make an excellent centre in a Jamie Lyon type role. I dont think he makes a good captain however.
