Being I would assume the biggest bloke on the field at that level meant he probably didn't need to make as strong first contact in defence and with experience in first grade I am certain this will come. Furthermore it has got to be tough to defend strongly when he knows he's got to last 80 minutes in the middle and at times I would be surprised if he wasn't guilty of saving energy/too tired in that first contact and getting off the line area.
