So we sign him long term on big money for an 18 year old on the back of a shoulder recon. He accepts a deal that overpays him for his stage if career. He goes through multiple disciplinary incidents and the club supports him. He outperforms his peers and his performance means that he is producing above his pay packet and Broncos calculated risk on him has paid off for the club. Payne goes to the club and says I want an upgrade based on my genuinely good performance. Broncos despite having an airtight contract upgrade him based purely on goodwill and form. Broncos don't receive an extension or anything in return. He blames his manager for the deal not being top dollar and then turns on the broncos about his current well paid deal. He then decides that he no longer wants to play for the broncos unless he can stay for top dollar of what he thinks can get on the market. He requests a release a day before the game despite the previous goodwill with his disciplinary issues and altruistic contract upgrade shown to him and in no consideration for the impact on the team. Payne Haas is entitled, badly behaved and ungrateful. His only redeeming feature is his ability to play rugby league and his dedication to his sport. He only wants to stay if he gets top dollar from his club. Usually players will stay for a bit less. Not payne. He disregards every bit of goodwill shown to him and requests a release. Despite this Kevvie and the players are gracious about his behaviour and allow him to keep his place despite it destabilising the club. The broncos are too good for Payne. Payne Haas deserved every boo he got. Players won't boo players who negotiate more money and leave. They understand despite being disappointed. They boo players who disrespectful and selfish. For me we let him negotiate with clubs demand a minimum 500K transfer fee and move him on as soon as possible. I wouldn't pick him again for the club. If he gets injured watch him stay and take his cash. I would also speak to the NRL and make sure his under contract years he isn't paid a dollar more. I will acknowledge he played well last night but after all. Its his one redeeming feature.
