On Haas, this has obviously been brewing since August last year when the Broncos attempted to sign him to an extension. The initial feeling was actually very positive from the club and it appeared he was set to sign until something happened at the 11th hour that Weidler had very good mail on. Fast forward to now and it's played out as expected. I believe the missing information is that he's got a deal in front of him, he just can't say what. So he's spinning these stories to take the focus off of any potential suitors until they're in a position where they can announce Haas without it looking bad. It's just a matter of how this will play out. I can't see Haas sticking around after 2024, but are the Broncos going to take him on his word about delivering on the field? How long will they carry him before they find a replacement that will make fans and sponsers happy? My best guess is that we'll see little of Haas at the Broncos during the Origin period, he may come back towards the end of the season and then the Broncos will make a big signing for 2023/24 and release Haas. I don't think anything will change. The NRL media will reference it every once in a while but it'll just be used as theatre and in the end Haas will get his way. The world is your oyster when you've got talent and although it'll expose another flaw in the salary cap the NRL won't care. They've shifted from a 'everyone is competitive!' to a 'superstar' model in recent times, although the current crop of superstars aren't delivering.
