To be honest the public humiliation they face is more than enough punishment. I feel sorry for a lot of these blokes who end up in situations they never meant to. I understand there a few guys who are just dickheads and will find trouble wherever they go, but the majority would be good guys who just had too much to drink and made a poor decision. It's embarrassing enough getting in trouble with the law without having it smeared across the media for a week, i understand media attention goes hand in hand with their jobs but geeze it's unfair if you ask me. I don't know any other type of employment where you can face weeks of ridicule, have your name dragged through the the mud, fined tens of thousands of dollars and still face the prospect of getting the sack! The media are vultures though, they beat up on everything and creating something out of nothing more often than not. A non rugby league related example, at the Bulls end of season booze up - players, selected media, high powered sponsors and those involved with the team only - one of the Courier Fails most prominent and respected cricket writers tried sneakily taking a few photos of Andrew Symonds on the beers for a beat up story the next day. Its a bit of a joke the stranglehold the media have on the game, their righteous crusade against alcoholism and bad behavior will cease once the public's interest does too. I give it a few years and no one will even care about this stuff anymore.
