Wally Lewis was the one the media beat on when Alfie was a rookie. It takes time. Cleary was being mocked 3-4 years ago. James Maloney took a lot of hits from the media for him. Look at Cleary now, Best Halfback in the game. Compared to Kyle Flanagan who constantly got hung out to dry. If we are developing players, we should be developing them as edge combinations, and telling them we don't expect them to be superstars, just good role players who do their jobs. And for me, the work that is done at under 18s international level by tier 2 nations usually gets wasted because nobody takes full advantage of it.
