BRISBANE coach Ivan Henjak has played down concerns he could be looking for a new set of halves to open the NRL season next month after Darren Lockyer was ordered to undergo precautionary scans on an upper arm injury suffered in last night's All Star clash.
Broncos halfback Peter Wallace has been battling an ongoing hamstring problem and is yet to prove his fitness with the start of the 2010 season just weeks away.
Lockyer and Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley (leg) were the major injury casualties from the pre-season game, with Gidley causing the most concern.
Gidley had scans on his leg last night and flew back to Newcastle early today for further tests to determine the seriousness of his injury, which could delay his start to the season.
"He was pretty uncomfortable when he left, so fingers crossed it's not too bad but at this stage it doesn't look great,'' said Lockyer.
With Wallace an absentee from training for the past week or so, Henjak will be hoping nothing is amiss with Lockyer who left the field in the first quarter of the NRL All Stars' 16-12 loss to the Indigenous All Stars with a bicep injury.
"It doesn't feel too bad at all and hopefully there's no problems, but the doctor still wants me to get a scan tomorrow (Monday),'' said Lockyer.
"I'm pretty confident everything will be OK but I'll have the scan just to be on the safe side.
"I'm pretty confident I won't be missing round one but if there is a bit of damage I will have to take it easy for a few weeks.
"It feels good, but there's a couple of symptoms there that they are a little worried about so, just to be on the safe side, I'll do the right thing.''
Henjak, who was in Mackay last night watching Brisbane play a trial wasn't overly concerned about Wallace's situation.
"He's going along all right and hopefully he will be right for the Redcliffe trial next week'' said Henjak.
"There's no big drama there."
Henjak said former Parramatta halfback Tim Smith has impressed in the trial on last night.
"He looked like the old Tim Smith, he set up a couple of tries for us, put some good plays on and played almost the whole 80 minutes,'' he said.
"He was very good.''
Fullback prospects Corey Norman and Josh Hoffman impressed Henjak although Hoffman suffered an ankle injury that could rule him out of the selection picture for a few weeks into the season.

The Gymp said:I agree I like the idea less and less despite wanting Hunt to get some experience. You cannot afford to have a half on the bench the way the game is played now, Glenn is the ideal bench utility because he can play halves or hooker if we really need it but is primarily a second rower/lock.
