I predict the Broncos will name 17-19 players, including one as captain.

No, if I was Gus I'd wait until the team was announced and then say "I said late last season that the Broncos would pick [insert surprising selection here]".

Can't wait until the round 1 team is announced and you quote your own post for truth.

Article about Locky's injury, but I posted it here because it contains a fair bit of interesting stuff regarding possible Rd 1 players.

BRISBANE coach Ivan Henjak has played down concerns he could be looking for a new set of halves to open the NRL season next month after Darren Lockyer was ordered to undergo precautionary scans on an upper arm injury suffered in last night's All Star clash.
Broncos halfback Peter Wallace has been battling an ongoing hamstring problem and is yet to prove his fitness with the start of the 2010 season just weeks away.

Lockyer and Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley (leg) were the major injury casualties from the pre-season game, with Gidley causing the most concern.

Gidley had scans on his leg last night and flew back to Newcastle early today for further tests to determine the seriousness of his injury, which could delay his start to the season.

"He was pretty uncomfortable when he left, so fingers crossed it's not too bad but at this stage it doesn't look great,'' said Lockyer.

With Wallace an absentee from training for the past week or so, Henjak will be hoping nothing is amiss with Lockyer who left the field in the first quarter of the NRL All Stars' 16-12 loss to the Indigenous All Stars with a bicep injury.

"It doesn't feel too bad at all and hopefully there's no problems, but the doctor still wants me to get a scan tomorrow (Monday),'' said Lockyer.

"I'm pretty confident everything will be OK but I'll have the scan just to be on the safe side.

"I'm pretty confident I won't be missing round one but if there is a bit of damage I will have to take it easy for a few weeks.

"It feels good, but there's a couple of symptoms there that they are a little worried about so, just to be on the safe side, I'll do the right thing.''

Henjak, who was in Mackay last night watching Brisbane play a trial wasn't overly concerned about Wallace's situation.

"He's going along all right and hopefully he will be right for the Redcliffe trial next week'' said Henjak.

"There's no big drama there."

Henjak said former Parramatta halfback Tim Smith has impressed in the trial on last night.

"He looked like the old Tim Smith, he set up a couple of tries for us, put some good plays on and played almost the whole 80 minutes,'' he said.

"He was very good.''

Fullback prospects Corey Norman and Josh Hoffman impressed Henjak although Hoffman suffered an ankle injury that could rule him out of the selection picture for a few weeks into the season.

Tim Smith playing like the old Tim Smith - great to hear, especially if Locky or Wallace aren't ready for Rd1.

Hoffman potentially out for the first few weeks of the season surely means KEMP in the 1.

So true. Even during the allstars game Rabs was asking him who he thought was Man of the Match and he wouldn't commit to an answer. Kept saying he would tell everyone after the game.

maybe if Hoffman is unavailable for round 1 then Corey Norman will get the gig. correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Norman played 5/8 for the u20's last year, which means ifhe is selected we could still employ our second man play

And if Norman does start there in round 1 and shows he can fit in the Second man play Hoffman and kemp wont get a shot.

Not so much a prediction, but this is what I am hoping for (assuming Lockyer and Kemp will be right and Yow Yeh is out).

1. Hoffman
2. Winterstein
3. Glenn
4. Folau
5. Kemp
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Kenny
9. McCullough
10. Sims
11. Thaiday
12. Te'o
13. Parker
-------------------------
14. Anderson
15. Setu
16. McGuire
17. Hunt
18. Smith

I've been a massive advocate for Glenn to start in the back row, but while Hodges and Yow Yeh are both injured I think he needs to be in the backline. Once Yow Yeh returns then Glenn can return to the back row with either Te'o or Parker to the bench.

As far as Hunt or Smith goes, I can't really decide having not seen any trials so would be happy with either.

I agree I like the idea less and less despite wanting Hunt to get some experience. You cannot afford to have a half on the bench the way the game is played now, Glenn is the ideal bench utility because he can play halves or hooker if we really need it but is primarily a second rower/lock.

Glenn can slot into the 5/8th or hooker but that doesn't mean his going to be as effective when it comes to the playmaking and creative requirements if an injury occurs in the halves or hooker or a change in the attack is needed, someone like Hunt or Smith on the otherhand can slot in and provide that which can be critical in a match. You do not need a 4 man forward bench especially when you have players like Glenn and Parker who are capable of playing 80 minutes there, 3 forwards(2 frontrowers, one backrower) on the bench with a utility would be effective.
