AMES Roberts is an outside chance of making a shock return for the NRMA Insurance Broncos this weekend. Roberts was named as 18th man for the Broncos today as they get set to meet the Manly Sea Eagles in game two of Saturday’s double header at Suncorp Stadium. It was feared Roberts had broken his leg late in his scintillating three-try performance against the Panthers back on April 27. However scans the following day revealed he had ankle ligament damage, which has improved significantly since then. Roberts will now return to training with the main squad and has the chance to be included against the Sea Eagles. “James is now cleared to return to run at training and then return to playing as soon as he is able,” confirmed Broncos’ High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans today. With Roberts named at 18th man, New Zealand Test centre Jordan Kahu slots in from the wing to take his place. David Mead will start on the wing. The Broncos’ starting pack is intact, with all five players who played for international teams last weekend cleared to play. Korbin Sims (Fiji), Adam Blair (New Zealand), Sam Thaiday and Matt Gillett (Australia) and Josh McGuire (Samoa) have all been named to start the game. George Fai is the new name on the interchange list, and if the young Souths Logan forward plays against Manly it will be his NRL debut. Junior Kangaroo Jaydn Su’A, Joe Boyce and Jonus Pearson join Roberts in the extended reserve squad.
