I don't blame Bennett for the way he behaved, but he knew what he was doing when he signed with South Sydney. He wanted to make the situation as uncomfortable as possible for the club, which is why he was happy to stick around and wait until he was sacked so the Broncos would face the fallout. I genuinely believe the Broncos did go back and forward on the 2019 and 2020 start date. If they had it their way, it would be 2019, but they could live with Bennett seeing out his contract as a courtesy. Which is why there were all these public declarations from Bennett and White at presentations and media conferences. However, once they got a taste of what was going on behind the scenes and Bennett was having a big say at both clubs that's when the rookie Seibold arcked up. If Bennett wanted to see out 2019, he would have done more to stay out of the headlines, instead of trying to go out and sign Trent Merrin for Seibold over at Souths or doing press conferences behind the club's back. As far as player movements, I don't believe Seibs went out and signed anyone before he got here. He was queried on a few re-signings, but from my understanding, Bennett was involved in those decisions as well. What it all boils down to is a lack of communication. I believe initially the club was comfortable to go with the 2020 start date, then Bennett signed with Souths and that's when the pendulum swung. The situation dragged out, everyone was just waiting around for the penny to drop and once Bennett called that presser it was the final straw. Seibs got caught in the middle and got a taste of how ugly the politics of the game are.
