I could be completely wrong - but with the veterans allowance - I'd imagine that would just come off the clubs total cap at the end of the spreadsheet. I can't imagine Oates or Reynolds payslip having a 'veterans allowance' section on it, they'd just sign for X number of dollars and that's it. The veterans part would get calculated later on at the end of the year (Total Spend - eligible veterans allowance deducted). Aren't players not meant to be privvy to the clubs salary cap situation overall? (At least thats what the Storm would have us believe a few years back anyway) I think we over-vauled Coates big time in offering him $500k and I'm glad he turned us down. There's no way he or Oates is worth paying that much to, even with Oates recent resurgence. I think the Coates price comparison is fair, but I don't think the Herbie one is because they play different positions, Herbie has lot more good years left in him than Oates does as well (purely basing this on age) I'd love to see Oates re-signed for 2 years, possibly with a third as a mutual option. He's still young enough to get a few more years out of, but how well will he look going into his 30's? I'd like to be able to look at him then and see how he has progressed/regressed towards the end of the 2-3 years. If it was a choice between Oates and Herbie in who to invest in long term, I'd go Herbie, purely for his age. He's coming into his own lately and has improved dramatically recently.
