Macca at his best is comparable to Smith. He just struggles to reach it except on rare occasions. He doesn't have Smith's vision but in form, he is still the best read of the game on the team. His service is less than some but by no means bad. He is also one of the few who can play 80 minutes and with the work he does, that cannot be undervalued. To my mind, he must be the most prolific tackler the Broncos have ever had (think of how much better a forward not doing those tackles or chasing after breaks from the likes of Granville or knik would be) With him in the team, I notice both halves tend to play better, as does the team as a whole. I wouldn't be swapping him for anyone and I think he will be fine for QLD with a team of great forwards. He might also provide more game vision from hooker than any of his competitors (with perhaps the exception of Granville, but god I'd hate to Granville's defence in an origin). You might wish for more lethal runs out of dummy half or better service but I've seen no one that does those things better do them consistently. The one exception being Smith (the greatest of all time). I'd still love to see him given a spell and maybe shifted out to the halves, the way smith does. He wouldn't be lost there and knik would excel as a dummy half runner (perhaps later in the game when things are tight Our problem is halfback. What can we do about it? Whilst the team is winning I would not be changing knik UNLESS one of his understudies manages to stand up in Intrust cup. I'd especially be paying attention to their kicking game and organising skills. I couldn't care less about their ability to break tackles or run the length of the field, but a good pass, good kicking and game vision are musts. I'd even settle for speed bump for a tackler (those things can be rectified with time, or at least compensated with at half). I'd be interested in how people think knik's potential replacements are going and if they tick any of those boxes?
