I'm sick of the hate and blame directed at Hunt. He is not the sole player in the team. Furthermore he is not the sole half in the team. It's a collective effort. Hunt came up with some crucial plays to get us back in the match. Milford was worse than Hunt in almost every regard, but since he's considered the 'chosen one' around here, all his awful performance tend to get covered up pretty quickly. What's worse is that when he plays terrible, Hunt cops the blame for that too. It's unfair for Hunt to cop unwarranted criticism, with half the side away on rep duty. We played the whole game on the back foot. We had no yardage gain. We were barely getting out of our 40m mark. You throw in JT or Cronk, and they'd struggle to assert themselves in the game too. It's not Milford or Hunt's fault, when our young forwards weren't able to lay the required platform to work off the back of. How about we stop pointing the finger at one player, and instead we take a long hard look at the pathetic game plans and tactical decisions Bennett is making lately. When Griffin was in charge, you'd here about it every second post, now there's barely a mention of it. The use of the bench was terrible. This isn't just about tonight, but for the current season as well as the last season. How about we stop taking two points every time were down the opposition half? Maybe then our halves can actually shine? It just stifles our attack. There's a time and place to go for goal, but Bennett doesn't seem to differentiate between when the times right and when it's not. It requires a bit of game awareness, instead just having a black and white policy of taking the two each time. Opposition teams have figured out how to beat us... Just give away a penalty when the Broncos are in the opposition 30 metres. Not only does that stop the Broncos from scoring tries, it gives our halves no rhythm in attack, which then carries on when we actually need to score tries. In a game, you don't get many opportunities in the opposition red zone. By taking two every time, you've basically given up an opportunity to build pressure and ultimately score a try. We're not making the most of our opportunities in attack. Teams aren't having their goal line defence put under pressure, meaning they're not tiring, and by not testing their defence, our attack isn't gelling. Each time we're taking the penalty in the opposition half, it could also be the last time we're down there. Our attack has so much strike but we are extremely under utilising it by exclusively opting take the negative option of going for two. Surely after doing that in the Grand Final, and having it come back to bite us, as well as multiple times in the past, we'd change things up? It happened again last week. The Cowboys got a roll on, and we barely touched the ball again in quality field position. As for some other questionable decisions: Why do we have the quickest player in the comp, and give him zero ball, but instead give all the ball to the slowest player in the comp? Why from every scrum do we give it straight to Reed, when that is the ideal time to involve Roberts, while half the players on the field are still locked into the scrum, leaving ample space for Roberts to work in? Why was Ofahengaue barely used in the second half, after making 76m in the first 30minutes? Was he injured? Why was Su'a used for the full 80, when it was clear he was struggling with the amount of work he was forced to do in his first NRL match? Why was TPJ taken off as soon as he was making a positive impact with some strong carries? Why was Arrow given the least amount of minutes, apart from Ese'Ese, when he is the one who can most easily play the longest minutes in the NRL after doing it in the ISC? Why was Blair even given the captaincy to begin with? He has never been a player who leads from the front. He has always been a player who enjoys being given a specific task, and he'll do it to the best of his ability for the duration of the match. He needs his orders to be specific, and we've seen since his Tiger's days, that he struggles and get's lost within a match when given such a broad assignment, such as a captaincy. He wasn't himself out there, and he struggled big time with his own game as a result. Part of me now actually thinks it was a ploy to get to Tallis... I would of expected tonight, without the Origin stars, to just go out and play football, without much burden. Try a few things, be adventurous when the times right, and use this game to learn how to build pressure. Learn to control the match. We lacked intensity and were out enthused from the get go. Our inexperienced forwards were making minimal metres, and we we're always playing from within our own half. Hopefully we can learn from this game, and be better in the next games without our origin players. I'm sure our young guns will be better for the run.
